Curriculum Highlights
At Leeming and Londonderry Community Primary, we ensure that we provide a broad and balanced curriculum that not just meets but exceeds the expectations of the National Curriculum.
However, there are some subjects that we consider to be real strengths of our curriculum offer. These are:
Mathematics
Maths teaching is strong throughout the school and uses a mastery approach to learning. This subject is led by a 'Mastery Specialist' who works closely with our local Maths Hub - nationally recognised organisations who provide support and direction to other schools.
Early Reading and Phonics
Our school has been working very hard this academic year on developing its provision for early reading and phonics. All staff have received comprehensive training on a new cutting edge training programme and are delivering high-quality phonics sessions on a daily basis, ensuring that every child becomes a fluent and competent reader, irrespective of their starting point.
Science
We love science at Leeming and Londonderry! The curriculum is exciting, dynamic and is really popular with our pupils! Whole federation science and STEM days enhance the subject even further.
Music
At Leeming and Londonderry every child learns to play a musical instrument! In KS2, children are taught how to play a brass or a woodwind instrument by a specialist music teacher who comes to school each week. The children also love the opportunity to perform whether that be singing or playing their brass instruments.
IT and Computing
At Leeming and Londonderry we think that IT is a real strength. Thanks to our small numbers, we are able to provide every child with their own device. An iPad in Class 1 and a laptop in KS2. By doing this, we have enabled all children access to technology both in and out of school so the learning never stops.
Physical Education
PE and School Sport is becoming a real strength at Leeming and Londonderry Our school has a really well thought out curriculum, which is delivered expertly by our staff alongside an excellent sports coach who knows our children very well. Every child, from Reception to Year 6 goes swimming every summer term, which ensures that all children can swim confidently by the time they leave primary school. Pupils receive a raft of opportunities to take part in inter-school competitions and festivals and as a result of all this provision, PE is one of the most popular subjects!
Outdoor Education
All children in every year group love to learn outside and we ensure that every opportunity is given to take our learning outdoors. This is also enhanced by a regular Forest Schools sessions which are led by the wonderful Mrs Lerigo and Mrs Smith who are highly qualified Forest School practitioners.
